Introduced in 1826 and before that the Spanish Royal coin was marked with peso.

 

Peso is divided to 100 items, named centavos.

 

Since 1992 until the present moment in circulation is the convertible peso with fixed value of 1 American dollar, which had replaced the former unit austral in the exchange rate of 10 000 australes for one peso.

 

In circulation are the following coins in denomination of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos, so and a coin of 1 peso. There are also commemorative coins of 2 and 5 peso.

 

Coins of 1 centavo were last minted in 2001 and after that they have been withdrawn from circulation.

 

Banknotes issued from the Argentinean Central Bank are with values of 1, 2, 5,10,20,50 and 100 peso.
